House, Vale of Pewsey: phase II

Entrance hall - after
Ten years later, in 1996, our clients returned with a request for a second extension, to include a large kitchen, a breakfast room, extra bedrooms and lots more book storage.
This time attaching the addition to the existing cottage was inevitable, if only to avoid the need for a third staircase. A shallower bay was used and the lean-to hall was opened out and extended with its own bay and seat. All of the existing rooms were re-arranged, with new fireplaces, and the staircase was replaced.
Finishes were a little more sophisticated, but still robust, with elm used for kitchen fittings, floors, staircase and bookshelves.
Bookcases were installed on every possible stretch of wall.
