House, Islington: roof terrace

The original roof structure had largely been removed and a roof terrace had been constructed in its place, but its finishes were tired and the pronounced slope and an inherent bounce made it uncomfortable to use. However, it was a highly attractive feature and one of the aims was to improve its appearance and access to it.

The structure was strengthened and re-levelled and finished off with timber decking and the staircase housing was renewed in hardwood. Trelliswork screens were replaced with structural glass at the front and rear parapets.
