Country House, Dorset: windows

The stonework of the house is a fine creamy Ham limestone and the windows have stone mullions and wrought iron casements with leaded lights. The stonework had deteriorated over the centuries and been badly patched with cement mortar, which had darkened on the inside through condensation. The cement was cut out and the stonework was carefully repaired with lime mortar, using new stone only where the original had eroded too far, so that the windows have a new lease of life with their texture and patina remaining unspoiled.
