Country House, Dorset: overview

Country house, Dorset
The origins of this house are confused and it had been altered and extended many times in the course of the past 400 or so years. The circulation was a mess, but there was still some very good panelling, doors and fireplaces in the west range.
Unfortunately elsewhere most of the original fabric had been stripped out in the previous 20-30 years and replaced with fittings of the poorest quality. Our aim was to give some coherence back to the house by repairing the remaining existing fabric, renewing the replacement fittings, rationalising the circulation and adding an extension to provide a substantial kitchen/breakfast room, dining room and additional bedrooms.
