Conservatories & garden rooms: modern

The basement of this semi-detached house had small rooms to the rear, with very little natural light, and an enclosed north-facing patio with narrow steps up to the garden. By opening up between the front and rear rooms, taking out walls at the rear of the house and inserting a simple frameless glass conservatory in the gap between back extensions the space has been transformed for use by the family. The patio has been widened and its decking is level with the internal floor. Raised planting beds soften the transition to the garden and gentle steps link the two levels.
