We are very pleased to announce that Putney Chapel won the Gold Green Apple Award 2019 for the Built Environment and Architectural Heritage!
Our aim was to save the derelict building by providing an imaginative re-use as a dwelling annexe to the nearby cemetery lodge. We were also able to capitalize on the embodied carbon of the existing building which had already been around for over a century and a half, and ensure its future for many more years to come by giving it a new purpose.
Even though we were exempt from meeting Building Control standards for improving insulation, we still managed to successfully navigate these challenges and improved thermal performance and reduced energy loss while maintaining details and breathability. We achieved an overall 78% carbon emissions reduction for building in use.
The derelict Chapels have been carefully repaired and repurposed to give it a new lease of life. Read about this project in detail here.
