The stabilisation and repair to the portico stonework at St Leonard, Shoreditch, has been shortlisted for the SPAB John Betjeman Award 2018. Winners are to be announced at a later date.

The award is given for repairs to a specific element of a building, rather than for a general programme of works. The award is always made to the building rather than to an individual, so the whole community can celebrate the quality of work completed in its building.

The architrave stones of the main entrance portico had come loose, as water penetration caused by blocked roof outlets had led to the rusting of previous iron repairs, thereby spalling and cracking its stonework. After investigations and temporary repairs, core drilling was done to discreetly install Cinteq anchors to stabilize the architrave.
