Roger Mears Architects were commissioned by a Charity Water Incorporated, to develop proposals for a sensitive redevelopment of Clerkenwell Firestation. This is a Grade II listed redundant building identified by the Mayor of London for sale.
Our vision was to create a local museum space and exhibition space, cafe, information centre, key worker/ student housing and charity offices in the existing building. Our design improved the street scape of Coldbath Square with an active frontage, with residential units above, around a landscaped courtyard.
The Charity has now been informed that the building has been withdrawn from sale. Our scheme is in compliance with Islington’s development plan and Historic England’s recommendations. We hope that Water Inc orporated will succed in saving this building. More information existing on the charity’s website.
